"The Gutter Paradigm" |
12/5/2008 |
My new book, "The Gutter Paradigm" is currently in the graphic design stage. Upon completion of the design we will go to press with an anticipated publish date just after the first of the year. Please check this site periodically for the release date and information on how you can order the book. For those of you who are not familiar with the subject matter, it is a summation of my primary keynote speech, "Everything you need to be successful you can learn in a bowling alley." The book describes a fun filled trip to a bowling alley and the life lessons we can learn from the experience. Virtually anyone who has bowled will relate to the stories and the lessons. I hope you consider ordering the book and more importantly enjoy the message it conveys.

WSAE Showcase |
11/13/2008 |
Yesterday I had the pleasure of speaking to the Wisconsin Society of Association Executives as part of a NSA-Wisconsin speakers' showcase. The event consisted of six speakers and a master of Ceromonies, where each speaker talked for less that fifteen minutes. It was designed to give the attendees the opportunity to see the style of these various speakers for possible use in future meetings by the WSAE members. As one of the speakers I choose a topic that was relevant to the associations, that of merger or alliances in these tough economic times entitled, "But that is impossible-Lessons learned from one of the largest association mergers in US history.". In just twelve minutes I tried to provide an overview of the major issues faced in the merger of three large associations and one shared service corporation. A real Cliff Notes version of a topic!!. Additionally I was the last speaker so I was all that stood between them and the door. Talk about pressure. In reality all the presentations were well received and appreciated. The difficulty, in that short time, is to give the audience a taste of your style and knowledge while also explaining that you do other presentations , as well as consulting work and seminars. For those of you reading this that are WSAE members, I'll see you at the Ostohoff Resort next month at my table top exhibit. Just look for the Pinspiration booth that will be decorated with bowling pins, high heeled bowling shoes and some other interesting items. Just remember, "Nothing is impossible".

High Heeled Bowling Shoes |
10/27/2008 |
A number of people who have been at some of my recent speeches have asked where they can buy a pair of the high heeled bowling shoes I use as part of the presentation. They are available on a website www.strikingproducts.com. I have no affiliation with this site other than I know the individual who developed the product line. So, if you are looking for that unusual gift, or just a pair of high heeled bowling shoes to impress your friends, log on and take a look. |

Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) |
10/24/2008 |
Yesterday I had the distinct pleasure to see the future. And I can assure everyone, if the CTSO is any indication we are in good hands. I was fortunate enough to be asked to present two workshops to the attendees at the Wisconsin chapter of the CTSO. Approximately 250 students and faculty attended the three day event. My topic was "The Gutter Paradigm or Everything you need to be successful you can learn in a Bowling Alley." Each session drew about 100 attendees. The discussions were fun, lively and educational. I think that many attended my sessions simply because the premise that you can learn about success in a bowling alley was such a juxtaposition from the common stereotype of what people think of bowling that the notion intrigued them. Thus my title, The Gutter Paradigm." I would like to thank Mae, a dynamic lady who rides herd over the entire operation. Also, Eli was by my side at 7:00 am making sure everything was perfect for the session. I would also like to thank all of the attendees for their interest and professionalism in their conduct and interest in learning. I am sure that those attending the Leadership Workshop will be leaders of the future. I am proud to have been a small part of their experience.

Meeting Professionals International-Wisconsin |
10/17/2008 |
I had the distinct pleasure of addressing the Meeting Planners International-Wisconsin yesterday at the Cranberry Lodge in Tomah, Wisconsin. The afternoon educational session was entitled, "Everything you need to be successful you can learn in a bowling alley." The speech/workshop dealt with the traits necessary, for an individual to develop, to provide them with the best opportunity to succeed. While the topic was important and timely, the presentation was full of fun facts, Hershey chocolate and a lot of laughing. At the end of each session the participants "scored" themselves on a mock bowling score sheet to determine how they "score" on the success chart. The key to the score was that it was self assessed and provided each individual with a ready reference on the traits that needed the most work. I would like to thank Christopher for being the individual behind the scene that handles the details, Sarah the coordinator for my presentation, Naomi for her help in arranging the speech and most importantly Paulette, whose persistence with the Board of Director resulted in them finally giving in and booking me. But most importantly I would like to thank those in attendance for staying awake after lunch, not leaving after the break and being active participants in the sessions. At the conclusion I announced that I would provide signed copies of my new book- "The Gutter Paradigm" for anyone giving me their contact information. The response was great and copies of the book will be going out when I receive them from the printer. All in all I had a great time in Tomah and look forward to future presentation to the MPI-Wisconsin |
